1. What does JEMUN stand for? JEMUN stands for Japan English Model United Nations.
2. What is Model United Nations? Model United Nations is a simulation of a United Nations meeting.
3. What topics are discussed at JEMUN conferences? The agenda topics discussed at JEMUN conferences vary from year to year and are decided by the JEMUN conference organising committee. Some examples of topics discussed at past JEMUN conferences include Sustainable Tourism, Water Issues, Population, Disasters, Education and Human Rights, and Fast Fashion.
4. What is a JEMUN Delegate? A JEMUN delegate is a student who assumes the role of a country ambassador in a JEMUN conference. Anyone can be a JEMUN delegate as long as they have the ambition to learn something new and a desire work with people to make the world a better place.
5. What is JEMUN Journalism? JEMUN Journalism is a unique multicultural cooperative learning opportunity for students from around the world. In project teams, students take on the roles conference journalists. Multicultural project teams collaborate, explore, engage and finally create digital media broadcasts in English. These digital media broadcasts are then published on the JEMUN Website, and the JEMUN social media pages.
6. Why should I apply for JEMUN? As a JEMUN delegate or journalist, you will develop an appreciation of differing viewpoints, the frustration of negotiation, the rewards of cooperation and a broader view of the human side of international relations and diplomacy. JEMUN is also a place to enhance multicultural understanding and make friends for life.

9. Do delegates have to stay at the conference hotel? The participants are free to choose accommodation on their own.
10. How many students will attend JEMUN 2023? Approximately 300 students.
11. How many students will be in each meeting room? This will depend of the meeting room, but no more than 70 students per room
12. Where do participants come from? JEMUN participants include Japanese students, international students studying in Japan, and students coming from countries around the world.
13. Will I receive a certificate of participation? Yes.
14. How many delegates represent a single country? At JEMUN conferences, each student represents a country on their own.

15. How can I apply for JEMUN? Interested students can apply online between November 1st and May 8th. If you are a teacher bringing a group of students, please contact the JEMUN organising committee by sending a message to the online contact form.
16. Who can apply for JEMUN? JEMUN is happy to accept applications from Japanese university and high school students, international students studying at Japanese universities or high schools, and university / college students or high school students from abroad not requiring visa support.
17. When does the application process begin and end? The application process begins on November 1st and finishes on May 8th.
18. How do I pay for the conference fee? After your online application has been accepted, the JEMUN Organizing committee will send you a message outlining the payment procedure. Applicants from abroad will need to pay the conference fee by doing a Yen-dominated wire transfer from a financial institution in their country. When making the payment from abroad, an additional JPY4,000 will be required to cover the bank commission in Japan. Applicants residing in Japan can pay the conference fee payment from an ATM or financial institution. This payment is non-refundable after May 15th, 2023.
19. Does the conference fee include food and accommodation? No. Participants are responsible for making their own accommodation and food arrangements.
20. Do faculty advisers/observers have to pay the conference fee? Yes, Faculty advisors must pay a participation fee.
21. Does JEMUN offer any financial support or scholarships? No, unfortunately JEMUN does not offer any financial support or scholarships to its participants. However, the JEMUN Organizing committee is committed to keeping the conference fees as affordable as possible.
22. Does JEMUN offer support for visas? Unfortunately, the JEMUN Organizing Committee is unable to offer any visa support.
23. When will I receive a letter of invitation and what will it include? After your conference fee payment has been confirmed, please request the JEMUN Organizing Committee for a letter of invitation if needed.

24. What kind of preparation should delegates do before JEMUN? Before attending JEMUN, delegates need to do a lot of research. They should know about the country they are representing and its position on the agenda being discussed. It is also important for delegates to understand the UN body they will simulate and the committee they will join.
25. Are position papers required? Yes, each delegate is required to write a position paper.
26. Where and when do I submit my position paper? Position papers can be submitted on the paper submission page that will be available on the JEMUN website from July 1st.
27. What should I include in the position paper? A summary of what your position paper should include is outlined in the preparation guide.

33. What kind of preparation should journalists do before JEMUN? It is important that journalists understand the UN Body and Agenda they will be reporting on. An information booklet will be sent to all of the journalists in April.
34. Do journalists need to submit a position paper? No, journalists do not need to submit a position paper, but they will have to submit a pre-conference journalist assignment.
35. Where and when do I send the journalist assignment? Information about your journalist assignment will be sent to you after you have paid for your conference fee.

Throughout the annual JEMUN conference, multicultural project teams collaborate, explore, engage and finally create digital media broadcasts in English. These digital media (videos, podcasts, newspaper articles, cartoons, social media posts, photos) are then published to the JEMUN website.
