Ms. Akiko Takai
Akiko Takai is the Deputy Secretary General of Save the Children Japan, supporting CEO in overall management of the organization including governance and compliance. Previously, she served as Directors of Human Resources and Administration; Communications; and International Programs. Akiko joined Save the Children in March 2011, immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, as the team leader for its Sendai Office, coordinating emergency response and recovery program in Miyagi prefecture. Prior to joining Save the Children, Akiko worked with UNFPA for nearly ten years focusing on HIV prevention (at HQ and in Viet Nam), and capacity development of CSO (in Yemen). Before joining the UN family, Akiko worked with an AIDS service organization in Tokyo. She is also a specially appointed Associate Professor at Rikkyo University.
Akiko graduated from Grinnell College in the United States with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and holds a Master of Health Science from School of International Health, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo.
