JEMUN Editorial
Cartoonists

Editorial Cartoonists

All of the JEMUN Editorial Cartoonists will be provided with the following equipment:
-drawing paper
-drawing pencils
-colored drawing pens
-scanner

At the JEMUN Conference, Editorial Cartoonists will follow the planning to production steps shown below.

Step #1: Learn about the agenda topic you will be reporting on before you come to the conference by reading books, doing research online, and learning new important vocabulary. If you will be interviewing a guest speaker, make sure you do research about them before the conference.

Step #2:  Brainstorm the event/situation/happening/subject you’d like to report on. Some of this brainstorming can be done in advance, but a majority of it will be done at the conference.

Step #3:  Once you have a specific direction and focus on what you would like to draw, sketch a rough draft of your idea.

Step #4: Make a list of your potential sources. This is where you will get the credible information you need to for the content of your editorial cartoon.

Step #5: Interview your sources.

Step #6: Start drawing your cartoon.

Step #7: Finish editing your cartoon according to the JEMUN Journalism guidelines.

Step #8: Decide on the title of your cartoon.

Step #9: Get your cartoon and title checked by your assigned faculty adviser.

Step #10: Scan and save your cartoon as a .jpeg file and name it with your meeting room and cartoon #. Example: meeting room two, third cartoon would be: M2(C3).jpeg

Step #11: Put your jpeg file on a USB memory stick.

Step #12: Give the advisor your cartoon submission form and the USB memory stick.

Step #13: The advisor will inform the editorial cartoonist when their cartoon has been uploaded by returning the request form.

Step #14: The editorial cartoonist will update the coverage board.
All of the JEMUN Editorial Cartoonists are required to do a JEMUN pre-conference assignment. This is due on or before  July 1st, 2019.
